It’s Our 5th Anniversary! — Nope, Can’t Eat That Either

I can hardly believe that it’s been five years since I started this blog. And in that time, I’ve interviewed world-renowned chefs like Chef Ming Tsai and Chef David Rose, shared helpful quizzes, reviewed trendy and food allergy friendly restaurants across the United States, and more! I’ve also been featured on CNN.com, and I’ve written a couple of articles for SELF. Through this time, my mission has remained the same: to educate people about food allergies and normalize living with food allergies to the best of my ability.

One of the questions that I’ve consistently been asked is: How did you come up with the name “Nope, Can’t Eat That Either?” Well, it’s simple. Five years ago, after a severe anaphylactic incident, I was allergy tested. It had been years since I had testing done, and the results were a laundry list of food items that were regularly in my diet. After that, I kept finding myself in situations where people were trying to be helpful and offer me “safe” food, but my answer was constantly the same: “Nope, I can’t eat that either.” I also found myself explaining food allergies, anaphylaxis and intolerances to a lot of people, and that’s when I knew that I needed to start a blog.

Back then, there weren’t many people who look like me talking about food allergies. I was, honestly, surprised. Also, there weren’t many first-hand accounts. Now, I’m seeing more and more blogs and social media accounts focused on food allergies, and I couldn’t be happier.

Before I go, I want to thank all of you — my loyal readers — especially those of you who’ve taken the time to write me personal notes. Sometimes, balancing my personal and professional lives doesn’t always leave a lot of time for the blog, but when I receive those messages, I know I have to keep it going. So, thank you!
