Follow this guide for a 2-day staycation in Regina, checking out a few of Regina’s best winter experiences and a few of our favourite local businesses.
Coffee first, always
Stop in at one of the newest coffee shops in Regina. Pause Coffee will provide you with that for a morning pick-me-up before a full day of activities. We recommend snatching up some Hobo Donuts while you are there for a mid-morning treat.
Head to Fresh Air Experience to rent snowshoes and make your way to a local park for a stroll through the snow – our favourites are Neil Balkwill & Les Sherman. Stop halfway through your walk to dig into your donuts. (Tip from the locals: Check out the City’s free snowshoe rentals and where they’ll be here.)
Take a break for lunch
Stop in at Fresh & Sweet for some sandwiches and sweet treats or Mercury Café for a burger & milkshake. Both spots have great options for takeout to warm up at home! Heck, you’re brave try a winter picnic!
Skating at Iceville
Go for a skate at the biggest outdoor rink in Saskatchewan – Iceville! With tons of room for social distancing and lots of great music playing to skate along to. Make sure you pre-booked your time slot – reservations open Mondays at noon here.
Grab lunch for Day 2
Pick up a “bagged” lunch for day 2 of winter adventures on the road. Style and Graze offers “charcuterie style” boxes for snacking or a light lunch. Tangerine also has a wide variety of lunches for on-the-go.
6. Change up the scenery and try staycationing at a local hotel.
If you’re looking to get out of the house for the night but want to stick close to home, try one of Regina’s hotels! Like all business operating within a pandemic, hotels are following Saskatchewan Public Health Orders and the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan. This means you can expect all staff and guest wearing masks, plexiglass barriers in place at check-in and social distancing encouraged in all public areas.
Order in from Cathedral Social Hall to take back to the hotel to enjoy. The Prairie Perogies and Dill Pickle Pizza are top picks after a busy day.
Start your day a bit earlier and head out to Echo Valley Provincial Park for some winter activities. Spend your day checking out all the park has to offer – the skating loop, cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing trails, or try geo-caching. Winter-themed Park Activity Kits are also available for pick-up at the park. Enjoy your packed lunch and enjoy some beautiful scenery in the park.
Back to the city
Pick up takeout on your way back into the city for some well-deserved rest. Caraway Grill or Ginger Garlic both have great options to warm you up after a day outside. We can almost smell the delicious spices already!
